wild love

wildlove

i created this illustration almost exactly two years ago in 2010. they were the first giraffes to appear in my work. about a year after i had the pleasure of visiting my friend in africa. it was truly a dream trip… i went on safari, visited an elephant orphanage and a giraffe sanctuary. one of my favorite moments was at the sanctuary… i climbed up their observation tower that put me at eye-level with the giraffes. when i got to the top they handed me some food. before i knew it there was a beautiful, soft, and somewhat pushy giraffe eating out of my hands!

from that point forward, my work has been full of giraffes… and i’m sure it will remain that way. ^_^

beauty is everywhere

this is another one from the archives. i know many artists love drawing trees and i am definitely one of them. their deceptive simplicity is lovely and we are surrounded by them.

thus, i truly believe we are surrounded by beauty.

dance party + shipping deadline

danceparty

this is an older image. the one place i can always convince my hubbahubba to dance with me is in our apartment. and oh my do we dance! some of my favorite times are when we’re in our pjays shimmying to records.

also a friendly reminder that today is the last day to order prints & such and guarantee arrival by christmas.

a simple wish

simplewish

i find it hard to draw something happy today. in the wake of the tragedy in connecticut, i simply wish that we are kind to each other… to choose love over hate, passion over power and most of all that we appreciate each other. every moment, every day.

sipping chocolate

sippingchoc

i’m still on break but i wanted to re-share some of my favorite images. ^_^ my mother-in-law and i were talking about this hot cocoa called sipping chocolate once last year… a few days later i created this illustration.

there are days when i am truly happy with an image and this is definitely one of them – i love the play of small and large, the steam coming off the mug and the look the bear and girl are exchanging. there is so much story here – but there’s also story that the viewer can add. it’s one of the things i love the most about art.

i can create this illustration, but you can create the rest. what do you think happens next?

what a wonderful world + break

wonderfulworld

i will be exhibiting at my last and favorite show tomorrow night, december 14th at the california academy of sciences. come by if you’re around! if you can’t make it and would like to get some prints, card, etc please order soon to ensure it gets there by christmas – i suggest ordering by december 18th.

also, i know i keep saying this but i will be taking a long break to work on a big project. it’s hard for me to stop drawing what i love… but i must! i will be back as soon as i can ^_^

meanwhile, have a lovely week!
