San Jose Library Graphic Novel Award Ceremony

Winning entries from San Jose Public Library's 10th annual Graphic Novel Making Contest will be announced at the Awards Ceremony.

Along with announcing the winning submissions, guest speakers Matt Silady, Chair of the Comics Art department at California College of the Arts, and graphic novelist Nidhi Chanani, author of Pashmina, will be in attendance to share experience and advice about breaking into a creative industry.

SF Zine Fest Guest of Honor

SF Zine Fest is thrilled to announce that our Guest of Honor for the 2018 fest is Bay Area-based Indian-American cartoonist and writer Nidhi Chanani, a 2012 Champion of Change honoree by the Obama administration. Nidhi's exceptional debut graphic novel Pashmina, a tale about the hardship and self-discovery that is born from juggling two cultures and two worlds, has received glowing reviews from
numerous publications. Her second graphic novel, Jukebox, about two Muslim-American cousins, Shaheen and Tannaz in San Francisco, is slated to release in 2020.
Nidhi was born in Calcutta and raised in suburban southern California. An instructor in the Master of Fine Arts, Comics program at the California College of Arts, She holds a degree in Literature from the University of California, Santa Cruz. She creates because it makes her happy – with the hope that it can make others happy, too.

Marin Comics Fest

Meet cartoonist and writer Nidhi Chanani, whose lively graphic novel 'Pashmina' centers on Priyanka “Pri” Das, an Indian American teenager curious about her family background and cultural identity. Admission is free.

When she's not creating colorful new tales, Nidhi is an instructor in the Master of Fine Arts, Comics program at the California College of Arts.

Nidhi will be signing books following her presentation.
