In 2012 I was honored at the White House by the Obama Administration as a champion of change. I was elated and create this piece featuring the President and First Lady, who inspired so many with their work and dedication – it still holds a special place in my heart.
This coming Monday they’ve invited all the champions over the past 8 years back for a reunion. I’ve been disappointed and (honestly) scared by the rise in hatred in our country and was unsure about attending.
But, I chose to go and create art along the way. I don’t know what I will draw – perhaps it will be like much of my other work or perhaps it may be more overtly political. Either way I will make it available for purchase and donate all the proceeds to the ACLU.
I am happy to take you on this journey with me – albeit bittersweet.
We are kicking off our holiday shows with my favorite Etsy Holiday show this weekend in San Francisco. Come shop over 200 local makers if you’re around!
Meanwhile I’ve been busy working on proposals to two new graphic novels – fingers crossed that I can finish them before Thanksgiving and see if there’s interest in them – keeping my head down and working is what’s getting me through.
I hope you have a wonderful holiday week <3
I’m excited to share that I will be teaching comics at the CCA next year. If you’re interested in the CCA’s comics program, you can come to my presentation/information session tomorrow – I will be speaking about my path to art and comics and staff will be on hand to answer questions about their program.
Hope to see you there.
In the wake of this week’s election, I’ve been thinking about how I can actively give back. We have set up a donation request form – if your school or organization is looking for donations of art prints, you can submit your request here.
I hope your weekend is full of love <3
i thought this week, along with many others, that our country would celebrate the first woman president. instead i have spent sleepless nights worried about a future full of open hatred. i wake up to stories of my fears realized – people attacking one another with their fists and words.
This was a commission that I absolutely loved. I am reopening my simple commissions for a few slots for the last time this year – first come, first serve.
I hope you have a happy weekend!
