independence day
/1 Comment/in daily drawing /by Nidhi ChananiToday is India’s independence day! This illustration is from 2011 (hard to believe!) which is around the same time that I was pitching Pashmina. Today I am finishing up the final step (copyediting) before sending over the entire book to my publisher – there will be minor changes along the way, but for all intents and purposes – I’m done!
And now I’ll start creating new illustrations – I have years of lovely moments that I can’t wait to draw ^_^
Happy, happy Monday!

hourly comics 2016
/0 Comments/in comics /by Nidhi ChananiI participated for the first time in hourly comics yesterday. It’s an annual event where anyone can share a comic snapshot of their life. The goal is to draw a comic every hour! It was fun and challenging. I started the day off taking care of our daughter so that Nick could take a phone interview and ended in San Francisco with artists friends in our sketch group. I posted them “live” as I went along on social media and this morning I scanned them all to share with you!
Have a lovely Tuesday!

night duel + urban epicurean festival
/0 Comments/in creative process, daily drawing, news /by Nidhi ChananiVery early in my career my hard drive crashed and I lost the full resolution files of my illustrations. Duel was one of them – and as my work has been featured on different websites I’ve been asked for it as a print. Sadly I cannot recreate it – but I did revisit it! It was so much fun – it gave me a chance to truly see where I’ve grown. I understand anatomy and character weight better, but also light and shadow. I still have a long way to go but I know from years of experience my best route to improvement is to keep drawing. ^_^
Meanwhile, this weekend I will be at the Urban Epicurean Fest in San Francisco selling prints, cards and calendars with the wonderful Lyla Warren ofLittle Brigade. She’s coming from Portland to share her lovelySeedlingswith you all! If you’re around please come by and say hello!
