growing up i would always hear stories from my mom about holi (the festival to celebrate the arrival of spring, which includes throwing colored powder on each other) … my mom would throw balloons full of colored water from her balcony…!

one of my favorite things as a child was when my mom braided my hair. it wasn’t the act so much as the feeling – that in that moment, we belonged to each other.
