Jukebox trailer!

⭐ Enjoy this sneak peek at the interior art for JUKEBOX releasing in 5 WEEKS! ⭐

Shahi and Naz find a jukebox that takes them back in time. Each album sends them to eras of American history in their journey to find Shahi’s father. A story about how music shapes our past and present and connects us to one another. 🎵📚

Pre-order from a local independent bookstore here or here!

Thanks to @nickaiart for this beautiful animation (she’s available for commissions!)

Jukebox cover and excerpt

I’m very excited to share the cover reveal of Jukebox along with a short interview and excerpt (!!) over on Comics Beat.

Out June 2021 – much to look forward to!

Pashmina and Netflix

I’m overjoyed to share this announcement with you that my debut graphic novel PASHMINA will be adapted into an animated musical with Netflix. Gurinder Chadha and Ashok Amritraj are wonderful and I’m honored to have them take my work to new places.

I’m a bit overwhelmed with the good news! Thank you to everyone involved, especially my husband Nick, my editor Mark Siegel and the entire team at First Second/Macmillan and my rockstar agent who years ago helped me believe in myself, Judy Hansen. And of course all the folks who supported PASHMINA since it’s release.

I hope you have a lovely week!

NYCC & canvases

We’ve found a new vendor for canvases and dropped the price by 20%! Buying lovely, large canvases for your home is much more accessible and we’re thrilled.

I will be heading to New York next week for New York Comicon. I’m excited to share my schedule!

I hope to see you there!

Have a great weekend –

exhibitions

 .

Last night I participated in a panel at the San Francisco Public Library and had the opportunity to see the First Second books exhibit. Similar to when I held Pashmina in my hands for the first time, the feeling of seeing my work displayed in this way left me without words.

The exhibit will remain up until March 4th.

This Sunday I will be at the Cartoon Art Museum to see another display of Pashmina artwork in their new space. I will be on hand to sign copies of Pashmina from 2-4pm and after Nick Park, creator of Wallace & Grommit will be discussing their new project (ticketed event).

It should be a great day and I hope to see you there!

Thanks, as always, for your support.

Almost there

A little sneak at some panels from PASHMINA which is less than 2 weeks away from release. Its received its second starred review in Publisher’s Weekly.

If you’re in the bay area, I hope to see you at our official launch party. If not, I hope to see you at one of the cities I am visiting on my mini tour.

Have a great week!

the high line

Book Expo was a wonderful whirlwind. I took the opportunity to walk to dinner and enjoy the city after a few interviews and my panel. I held a physical copy of Pashmina in my hands for the first time! Then I signed 100 advanced copies and was introduced as an author ^_^

I’ve been worried about not knowing what to do as a debut author and feeling generally lost. The trip alleviated many of my concerns. I know my worries are only temporarily silenced but while they are – I will embrace happiness.

book expo america

This is a panel from Pashmina. The word shabash means congratulations in Hindi. Beta is the word for son/daughter. Around our house we’re always saying shabash to our daughter – and I imagine my mom saying this to me as I embark on my trip to New York tomorrow for Book Expo America.

The trip will mark a lot of firsts – my first author trip to promote Pashmina, first publisher luncheon with other authors, first round of interviews and meetings for Pashmina. Among many of those firsts – I will see and hold my book for the first time at my first book signing (advance copies, the book still releases on October 3rd).

It’s about to become very real and I am very excited (and nervous, too!)

this is india

Do you remember the first positive representation of your home country? The lead character in my debut, PASHMINA, Priyanka is introduced to India in one of my favorite pages. I will be sharing a few sneak peeks before its release in October.

I remember inking this page not sure if I could convey what I wanted – but when I added color it came together.

I hope you have a happy weekend!

seattle bound

Thank you to all the people who came by Disney’s Wonderground Gallery through the month of February. I finished Snow White and have two other paintings that I’ll finish up after this weekend. But my traveling won’t stop!

I’m driving up to Seattle for Emerald City Comicon. It’s my favorite show of the year and I’m happy that Everyday Love Art will be sharing booth 409 with Unicorn Crafts! I will have prints, cards, magnets, original watercolors and canvas prints – if you’re in Seattle please come by and say hello.

This year I will also be promoting my debut graphic novel, Pashmina. I will be on FIVE PANELS (eeeks!) with some amazing authors like G. Wilow Wilson and Gene Yang.

Hope to see you there!
