nihara + new items

I’m back from a whirlwind trip to Anaheim for Wondercon. We released some new products there that are now in the shop – a limited edition cupcake warrior tote bag and snuggling sea turtle notepads. Every purchase over $15 will received a free calendar (while supplies last).

I hope you have a great week!

an artist’s life

I want to believe that my thoughts are these cute, encouraging creatures. Ones that push me to create and succeed. But I know they’re a bit more sinister.

My thoughts have been racing as I learn about publishing and being an author. As an illustrator I was protected from the constant reviews, awards and opportunities that are either had or not. The insecurities around other authors. The scrutiny of my work, my words and my choices. I fight myself and my thoughts to keep creating.

Because I want to believe in this vision of an artist’s life. That it’s full of love, color and hope. I want to believe that for our country, our world as well.

So I focus on the things I can control – making good art and good stories. And I live with my cute, sinister thoughts and try not to let them swallow me whole.

summer sale

It’s been a busy time as we prepare for San Diego Comicon where I will speak on 6 panels about Pashmina. I am also in the midst of planning my book tour – so many events! I’m also working on my next graphic novel, Jukebox. The hustle and work never stops!

Meanwhile I wanted to celebrate the arrival of summer with a sale – enjoy 20% off our shop (excluding canvas and sale items) until Friday with the code SUMMERBREEZE.

Have a happy short week!

seattle bound

Thank you to all the people who came by Disney’s Wonderground Gallery through the month of February. I finished Snow White and have two other paintings that I’ll finish up after this weekend. But my traveling won’t stop!

I’m driving up to Seattle for Emerald City Comicon. It’s my favorite show of the year and I’m happy that Everyday Love Art will be sharing booth 409 with Unicorn Crafts! I will have prints, cards, magnets, original watercolors and canvas prints – if you’re in Seattle please come by and say hello.

This year I will also be promoting my debut graphic novel, Pashmina. I will be on FIVE PANELS (eeeks!) with some amazing authors like G. Wilow Wilson and Gene Yang.

Hope to see you there!

love adventure

This weekend was a whirlwind of fun and fighting the flu! My piece “Love Adventure” was released at the Wonderground Gallery on Saturday. The response was truly humbling and I want to thank anyone who came by to chat, get a signature or watch me paint.

If you can’t make it to Wonderground gallery and are interested in Love Adventure or Our Happy Place, you can order it via email at: merchandise.guest.services@disneyparks.com  or by telephone at: 877-560-6477.  Just let Mail Order know that they are interested in the Nidhi Chanani artwork from WonderGround Gallery West and they would be happy to let them know if it’s currently available.

I’ve also been enjoying live painting every Friday and Saturday evening – I’ve painted Belle, the Rescuers, Esmeralda, and Pocahontas. I’ll be sharing those through this week! I hope you have a happy Monday!

hourly comics day

Every Feb 1st cartoonist participate in hourly comics day. I couldn’t finish my day because I was preparing for my artist residency at Disney, but I finally finished this week (while battling the flu!) so here it is! Also, hope to see you this weekend at Wonderground Gallery for my second weekend as their artist in residence.

resistance coloring page

Download 8.5×11 page here.

I feel beaten down and overwhelmed by the current political climate. But I’m determined to dig myself out – by sharing a story of love.

I welcome you to follow a girl and her journey to join the resistance. These are free, downloadable coloring pages. My aim is to post 24 this year, and if I can, I will create more. This is how I resist – by telling stories and creating art. I hope this will be a tool to help parents and teachers talk about protesting, fighting the good fight and loving each other. Obviously there is no age limit – anyone can download and color these pages.

I do have two requests – if you color this page, please take a photo and share it in the comments. I’d love to see it!

Second, I want your suggestions. Who will this girl meet? What adventures will she have on her path to her first protest? I have my own ideas but I want to hear from you – I want this to be open and collaborative.

Thank you, always, for your support. We will get through this with love.
