today is my mother-in-law’s birthday. she’s an incredible person. she gives everyone the benefit of the doubt – even if they’re obviously wrong. i’ve learned so much by observing who she is, how she accepts people and her positive attitude. being part of her family feels like a gift. she’s aretired pre-school teacher.she has hundreds of songs memorized, knowledge about great books and activities to do with children and an open, loving heart. when our baby spends time with her we joke that it’s pre pre-school. i’m so happy that her influence is all around. happy birthday, grandma! <3
I will be vending this Sunday at the SF Etsy Spring Show this Sunday at All Good Pizza in San Francisco. If you’re around please come by – and if I see you or don’t, I hope you have a relaxing weekend!
For the daughters who have difficult relationships with their moms, for those who never had a loving mom, for the women who are cat moms, dog moms, office moms, for those that are moms of one, two, or seven –tired, under slept and overextended, for those who tried and tried tobecome a mom but couldn’t, for those who had a being to care for andlost them but never stopped being “mom”, and for those who will neverpursue motherhood and that’s just fine… for all those women Ithought of you as this image came to me one night.
Love comes in many forms. I truly believe it is all around us. Sowhether you are celebrating mother’s day or tucking yourself in the
covers and staying away from social media – I wish you a wonderfulweekend, surrounded by the love that’s within reach.

It’s a cozy rainy day here. I haven’t created any new illustrations because I’m pushing forward on Pashmina. I am producing 2-3 pages a day. It may seem like I’m not drawing but I’m drawing more than ever before! My deadline for completion is approaching. The book won’t be available until Fall of next year but I willcomplete it this summer. My publisher will then haveample time for corrections, production and of course marketing! I thought as I got closer I would feel calmer, but I just feel more nervous! I still have a good stretch to wait, so hopefully mynerveswill subside.
Meanwhile, we’ve updated our zazzle shop with loads of products. We have phone cases, wallet cases, kindle and ipad covers, pillows (!), mugs and more. They’re having a 22% off sale today only for all orders, use the codeLUVOURPLANET.
Also I will be at Trickster in Berkeley for a Mother’s day live drawing event on April 30th. If you’d like a custom drawing for mother’s day or just because, come by with a photo (on your phone is fine). Limited number of slots will be available.
That’s all from me! Back to producing pages ^_^

Have a wonderful week!
we went on our first family vacation. it was equal parts rough and relaxing. traveling with baby was fine, but being hotel bound while baby napped with beautiful hawaii right outside the door was hard! i made the best of nap time by drawing (in the dark!) and even though we didn’t spend enough time in the pool or the ocean, it was hard to leave!
My Disney feature closes this weekend. I will be signingthis Saturday and Sunday from 2-5pm at Wonderground Galleryin theDowntown DisneyDistrict.Parking fees apply.
Have a lovely weekend!
My publisher, First Second, is celebrating 10 years of making books. I first encountered them as an attendee at San Diego Comic-Con in 2009. I remember finding Gene Luen Yang’s American Born Chinese, and how deeply it impacted me. It shifted my ideas of what comics could be. I’ve picked up a few of First Second’s books every year since, as a fellow exhibitor in San Diego.I created this comic to illustrate how I see myself in each of their titles – and it was hard to narrow it down! I didn’t get to include This One Summer, Three Shadows, Same Difference, Battling Boy, Sailor Twain, Sumo, The Undertaking of Lily Chen…agh! I love them all!As I wrote my forthcoming graphic novel, Pashmina, I had First Second on my mind. Their titles are diverse and literary. When my agent asked me about pitching, I told her that if First Second bought my book, I would be ecstatic… and I still am!Thank you and congrats, First Second, for 10 years of publishing wonderful books. I am so happy to be part of your family of authors!#10yearsof01
