star keeper
/0 Comments/in daily drawing /by Nidhi ChananiI’m going to attempt to do 1 hour speed paintings like this one a couple times a week as I work on Jukebox. If other projects come up, I may have to stop but for now I’m going to try!

Our first family ride
/6 Comments/in daily drawing, disney, news /by Nidhi ChananiTwo new illustrations were released this weekend with Disney. Both were inspired by my daughter – her first ride and her love of Mickey and Minnie Mouse. I think of the Small World ride as my family’s first experience with representation. We immigrated in the 80s to Southern California and inside Disneyland we found ourselves reflected in these adorable dolls from India. Each time we went on the ride I would watch my mom point and happily sing along, feeling in that moment that we were welcome. I can only hope that the message and beauty of that idea will prevail. Small world will always have a special place in my heart because of that experience with my mom. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to create this piece. Drawing the dolls in front of the clock was my absolute favorite part!
If you are in Downtown Disney, you can find this piece in the Wonderground Gallery. I will be there signing on July 21, 28 and 29 from 11-1pm. I will also be performing live wood burnings the last weekend at Rushin’ River Outfitters inside California Adventure. This past weekend I created owls and a lynx, both original, one of a kind and available there for $125.

I hope you have a good week!
thank you
/0 Comments/in daily drawing, news, originals /by Nidhi ChananiThank you for your ideas, messages and support. There are still drawings available here. For awhile I thought I was bananas for committing to 100 drawings as my hands began to ache and I fought a headache all day. Your love pushed me through.
We’ve raised $3,600 thus far. Thank you for committing your support to help immigrant families.
Art matters, it’s light in the darkness.
Keep fighting, keep resisting.
drawing all day!

I’m drawing all day to raise money and fight the inhumane treatment of immigrants.
This will be my only update because I have A LOT of drawing to do in order to hit 100. I’ll probably draw all night – if you want to follow along on twitter or instagram stories, that’s where I update regularly. Folks have already supported and I thank you. You can find all the available drawings as they’re made here.
Keep fighting, keep resisting.
music makers + action
/0 Comments/in daily drawing, news /by Nidhi ChananiI wanted to finish this before Father’s Day but I didn’t have the time. I couldn’t celebrate with my family because I was in Denver for their Comic-con. While I was there the news of the administration taking a zero tolerance stance on immigration filled my news feed. Photos of children kept in cages and separate from their parents. I wanted to tune out, numb myself and disengage.
In the the last 10 years I built my art career and generally feel proud of my accomplishments. As the news of this horrific practice released I began to regret my life choices. Why didn’t I become a lawyer, doctor, advocate? I have no skills to help in these situations. I asked myself, what can I do to combat these atrocities?
I can draw. I can create and I can use that skill to raise money and awareness. My voice is small but I will not remain silent. I will not sit idly by as babies are ripped from their mothers. Mothers whose only crime is to seek asylum from trauma in their home countries.
Today I will run an auction on twitter of rare pieces of art (Disney art, variant cover comics and art collections) I will begin posting at 1pm and close each auction at the end of the hour. All money will be donated here. Next week I will create ink drawings and sell them to raise money. I will continue to find ways to help.
Please consider donating. Or signing up to provide support here. Or calling your reps. We have to fight for justice. Together.
love in the leaves
/0 Comments/in daily drawing, news, pashmina /by Nidhi ChananiI had the privilege of creating this custom illustration for a lovely couple who will marry this fall. I’ve been buried under deadlines and at times unsatisfying work. Drawing this reminded me why I love my job.
Next week I will be at Denver Comicon as their special guest, I will participate on a slew of panels as well as have an artist alley table and I’m excited to share that my office manager, Nickole, will have her original art there as well! I will kick of the weekend with a presentation at the Denver public library on Thursday. If you’re around the area, I’d love to see you!
I hope you have a great week!
