grandma day
/0 Comments/in daily drawing /by Nidhi Chananitoday is my mother-in-law’s birthday. she’s an incredible person. she gives everyone the benefit of the doubt – even if they’re obviously wrong. i’ve learned so much by observing who she is, how she accepts people and her positive attitude. being part of her family feels like a gift. she’s aretired pre-school teacher.she has hundreds of songs memorized, knowledge about great books and activities to do with children and an open, loving heart. when our baby spends time with her we joke that it’s pre pre-school. i’m so happy that her influence is all around. happy birthday, grandma! <3

For the daughters who have difficult relationships with their moms, for those who never had a loving mom, for the women who are cat moms, dog moms, office moms, for those that are moms of one, two, or seven –tired, under slept and overextended, for those who tried and tried tobecome a mom but couldn’t, for those who had a being to care for andlost them but never stopped being “mom”, and for those who will neverpursue motherhood and that’s just fine… for all those women Ithought of you as this image came to me one night.
Love comes in many forms. I truly believe it is all around us. Sowhether you are celebrating mother’s day or tucking yourself in the
covers and staying away from social media – I wish you a wonderfulweekend, surrounded by the love that’s within reach.

the white house
/0 Comments/in news /by Nidhi ChananiI am thrilledto be among the Asian American Pacific Islanderartists on display at the White House. My illustration,Champions of Change will be on view for the month of May. They asked me to write a bit about the piece, and this is what is printed beside it. “When I was honored as a White House Champion of Change in 2012, I thought about the ultimate champions – President Obama and the First Lady. They inspire me not only with their steadfast commitment to change, but also (and perhaps more importantly) with their love for each other and this country. As I thought of them, I imagined them climbing a giant tree with champagne and music and sharing a dance.” – Nidhi Chanani
