Homeschool

It’s a little wild around here!

I am excited to share some good news – my picture book deal with Viking Children’s books has been announced. WHAT WILL MY STORY BE? will be my debut as a picture book author AND illustrator. I cannot wait to share this story about fostering creativity and storytelling in a young brown girl’s world and the importances of chosen families. 2021 cannot come soon enough (for multiple reasons!)

Also, I wanted to share my podcast conversation with my former art teacher and amazing artist, John Wentz. If you want to hear about my early career pursuing a stubborn dream with zero skills and connections, have a listen.

Stay safe and well, everyone!

If you can, please shop to support or send $ to paypal.me/EverydayLoveArt

Thank you!

Coloring pages and songs

I’ve added more free coloring pages to my site as well as roped my mother-in-law, Teacher Bernie, who has 40+ years of preschool experience into sharing some of her favorite songs on youtube! There are also some drawing demos there and I hope to add more in the coming days.

Providing resources to help folks who are now homeschooling makes me feel useful in this time.

And if you can, please shop to support or send $ to paypal.me/EverydayLoveArt All my income loss is compounding.

Thank you!

Drawing demos and more

I want to share some resources for folks, like us, are going into at least 3 weeks of homeschool and isolation due to the pandemic. I also recorded a few drawing demos and a read aloud that are available on my youtube. I also added a free unicorn coloring page to my free downloads page.

In order to keep some kind of routine I’ve created a loose schedule for our weekdays:

Additionally, Kate Messner, an author and wonderful resource has compiled a long list of resources and videos to use while distance learning here.

I will try to post more as I can – we will need time to adjust to our new schedule and ascertain how much work we can actually accomplish.

Stay healthy, all!

We’ll come through this together.

This weekend

Due to unforeseen circumstances I will be unable to make my appearance this weekend at Disney’s Wonderground Gallery. Please check my events page for updates on upcoming events.

As always, you can shop my everyday love art prints, pillows and totes online. As well as my books.

Thank you for your support and understanding.

Food and Wine Festival

I’m happy to announce another appearance at the 2020 Disney California Adventure Food and Wine Festival. My new Disney pieces, including the above Mulan piece “Victorious”, Moana piece “I will be with you”, Thumper “Kinda Bashful” and “Dreams come true” will be available exclusively at the festival from Feb 28th to April 21st. There will also be a selection of non Disney prints like “Love you forever” and “Three of us” available.

I will also be painting live and signing artwork during the festival March 27, 28 and 29th from 1-5pm.

It’ll be a very Disney month for me – I hope to catch you there!

Disney in March

I’m returning to Disney’s Wonderground Gallery this March as their featured artist of the month. It’s my 7th year working with them and each year my gratitude compounds. The Wonderground Gallery is located in Downtown Disney and does not require park tickets for entry.

You will be able to find a wonderful selection of Everyday Love Art prints, including this one, in the gallery all month. I will be signing the weekend of March 14 and 15th from 1-4pm.

I hope to see you there!

Peninsula Comics Fest

This illustration, Library, is from 2011 when I was trying to figure out how to make a living from art while working part-time at the Menlo Park Library. It was the only job I was sad to leave. It reminded me daily how much I loved books and people of the book. It was also an important support as I ventured onto an unknown path. Even now, I still think of Menlo Park as my home library.

That’s why I’m very happy to participate in the 2020 Peninsula Comics Arts Fest! Returning to my home library as an author is a lovely gift. I am grateful for the home I found there and the support they still provide for authors and cartoonists.

I will be part of two events (but please check their full schedule, there are amazing folks coming through and wonderful workshops through the whole month!)

Saturday March 7

I will be presenting about my path to comics and the process of making comics

We lived by the ocean

My prints on markdown will end in a few weeks and there are still some great 8×10 prints available for $5 (regular price $20). Snag them while they last!

Also I’m heading to Disney World this week – I hope to see you at the Epcot Festival of Arts. My new pieces are available now and I will be signing Friday, Saturday and Sunday. See you there!

I will be with you

My last piece for the Epcot International Festival of Arts – available now!

Moana has a special place in my heart. It was the first Disney film we watched with our daughter. We observed a no screen rule until she was two. Ever since, except on sick days, we only allow tv/screen time on weekends. When she first watched Moana it was scary… limited media exposure made her appropriately sensitive. But she kept asking for Moana over and over again. It’s now a family favorite. Growing up we didn’t have the kind of access to media we do now and so we’ve seen Moana more than any other Disney film… ever.

Our daughter has a wonderful relationship with her grandma. So, although I was drawing Moana and grandma Tala, I tried to capture the relationship I observed between my own child and her grandma – one of gentle, playful attention. And this has become one of my favorite pieces.

I hope to see you in Florida next week!

Kinda bashful

My third illustration releasing TODAY at the Epcot International Festival of Arts at Walt Disney World!

I will be there signing on Jan 31, Feb 1 and 2! Hope to see you!
