Painting the day away + SDCC

I’m working on a soon to be announced picture book. It’s my first time making a book with watercolor, ink and color pencil. It’s simultaneously exciting and terrifying.

It’s also meditative. Calming. I sit away from a screen, in front of a window where squirrels and birds frolic among the trees. I sometimes lose myself in a pattern or color mixing and forget to eat. I forget the hour. I’m consumed by making art.

I make a lot of mistakes. I smear ink, paint inside the lines and it’s less polished. Those mistakes could be fixed on a digital page. But there’s a charm in it. In a painting, minor mistakes add life and warmth.

As I paint, I allow my mind to wander, resettle and focus. Writing, drawing, promoting and earning a living wage as an author is hard. I plan my work years in advance. I often feel that my schedule and demands are non-stop.

But making this book with a brush in hand feels decadent.

And I am full of gratitude.

Speaking of non-stop schedules, I will be at San Diego Comicon this weekend promoting Super Boba Café! My panels and ARC signings are below.

After Comicon I am away for most of August so I won’t update for a long stretch. I’ll be back in Sept with more.

Until then, happy summer!

comicon for all

I’m still recovering from Comicon – it was a whirlwind of panels, parties and my 7th year in small press. I didn’t want folks who couldn’t make it to miss out, so we’re having a sitewide 25% off sale* through Sunday (our biggest of the year) with the code SDCC17.

I hope you’re having a good week.

*excludes sale, canvas and originals.

NPR, SDCC and tour

I am thrilled to be included in this article on NPR today.

We’re deep in prep for San Diego Comicon – every year it sneaks up on me. I can’t believe it’s next week! I will have a table at O-14 in Small Press. I will also be speaking on multiple panels. I hope to see you at the show!

If you’re in the Bay this weekend, my work will be available at the SF Etsy Pop Up in Ghiradelli Square. There will be dozens of local artists selling there, please stop by!

Lastly, I have added all my Pashmina tour dates to my events page! I’m excited to meet folks while I travel around the country this fall!

That’s all from me – I hope you have a great week!

It’s Comicon week in San Diego! It’s by far my biggest event of the year. With over 135,000 attendees and about 5 show days it’s a doozy! Team everyday love (Me, the hubbahubba and Donna) will be in Small Press, table O-14 Weds July 17 through Sunday July 21st. This year we will have giveaways with a minimum purchase Friday, Saturday and Sunday (while supplies last) so come by and check out our new bags, magnets, button packs and of course prints!

If you’re in San Diego and can’t make it inside for Comicon, don’t fret! There’s a wonderful pop-up shop called Trickster that has a curated collection of books, prints as well as events. I am honored to be part of Trickster again this year – so stop by at the Tavern Bowl on 930 Market Street.

Also I will be participating in a fundraiser for the Cartoon Art Museum. Come by booth #1930 on Sunday from 1-2pm and get a sketch by me for a donation!

That’s all for now ^_^ I’ll be back in a few weeks.
Have a lovely day,
Nidhi

P.S. If you aren’t anywhere near San Diego but want to keep up on the fun – I will be tweeting and instagramming throughout the trip! Follow me @nidhiart to enjoy the chaos from afar ^_^
